ITR Filing: As soon as the ITR filing season arrives, everyone’s mind starts thinking about taxes, deductions and refunds. But have you checked the status of the most important thing – your PAN card? Sometimes we don’t even know that our PAN card has gone into “silent mode”, that is, it has become inactive.
Why is it so important for the PAN card to be active
PAN card is not just a small document, but it is your financial identity. Without it, you will not be able to file ITR. If your PAN is inactive, not only will you face problems in filing income tax returns, but the tax deduction (TDS) can also be high. This can get your money stuck and on top of that, you can also be fined up to ₹ 10,000. Big works like banking, mutual funds, property can also be stopped due to this.
Why does PAN become inactive
The biggest reason is the lack of link between PAN and Aadhaar. If you have not yet linked your PAN to Aadhaar, then your PAN can become inactive. Apart from this, if more than one PAN card has been made in the name of a person by mistake or intentionally, then the duplicate PAN is also made inactive. PAN made from fake documents or PAN of a dead person also becomes inactive.
Easy way to check PAN status
Checking PAN status is very easy, for this you do not need to go to any office. Just open the official website of Income Tax https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/ on your mobile or computer. There you will find options like ‘Verify Your PAN’ or ‘Know Your PAN Details’.
