Jeevan Pramaan: For pensioners, submitting a Life Certificate is an important yearly requirement because it confirms that the pensioner is alive and helps ensure the regular continuation of pension payments. Earlier, pensioners generally had to visit a bank, post office, pension office, or other authorised centre to complete this process.
With the growing use of digital services, the process has become much easier and can now be completed through Jeevan Pramaan without necessarily making a physical visit. Jeevan Pramaan is the Digital Life Certificate service of the Government of India. It uses Aadhaar-based authentication to verify a pensioner and digitally generate the certificate.
Pensioners can use authorised Jeevan Pramaan centres, banks, post offices, and other available services. Eligible pensioners can also generate the certificate from home using a compatible smartphone and the official Jeevan Pramaan application with Aadhaar Face Authentication.

What Is Jeevan Pramaan Life Certificate?

Jeevan Pramaan is an Aadhaar-based Digital Life Certificate designed for pensioners. It uses digital authentication to confirm the pensioner’s identity and existence instead of requiring the person to physically appear before the pension disbursing authority. Once the authentication is completed successfully, a Digital Life Certificate is generated and stored digitally so that the concerned pension disbursing agency can access it.
The certificate contains pension-related information and receives a unique Pramaan ID after successful authentication. Pensioners can also download a PDF copy of their Digital Life Certificate using the Pramaan ID. However, the certificate is not permanently valid. Its validity depends on the rules of the pension sanctioning authority, so a new certificate may be required when the existing validity period ends.
Can Pensioners Get Jeevan Pramaan from Home?
Yes, eligible pensioners can generate Jeevan Pramaan from home through the official mobile application using Aadhaar Face Authentication. The latest official Jeevan Pramaan application supports Android and iOS devices, and the face authentication process uses the phone’s camera. This means a separate fingerprint or iris biometric device is not required when using the face authentication facility.
The home-based facility can be especially useful for elderly pensioners or people who find it difficult to travel to a bank, pension office, or service centre. Pensioners who cannot complete the digital process themselves can also use authorised service points such as Common Service Centres, banks, and post offices. India Post Payments Bank also provides doorstep Digital Life Certificate services through postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks for eligible pensioners.
How to Get Jeevan Pramaan Through Mobile?
To generate Jeevan Pramaan from a smartphone, the pensioner needs the official Jeevan Pramaan application along with the Aadhaar Face RD application required for face authentication. The current official requirements list Android 10 or above and iOS 14 or above for the latest mobile application. The device should also be unrooted. The official Jeevan Pramaan website provides the relevant application information and download options.
After installing the required applications, the pensioner needs to provide the required pension and personal details in the Jeevan Pramaan application and complete the authentication process. The phone camera is used to capture the pensioner’s face for Aadhaar-based authentication. Once the authentication is successful, the Digital Life Certificate is generated, and the details are made available digitally to the concerned pension disbursing agency.
What Details Are Needed for Jeevan Pramaan?
The Jeevan Pramaan process requires pension-related and identification information so that the system can correctly identify the pensioner and link the certificate with the relevant pension records. Important information generally includes the Aadhaar number, mobile number, Pension Payment Order details, pension-related information, and bank account details. The exact information required can depend on the pensioner and the pension disbursing authority.
Pensioners should make sure that the information entered during registration is accurate because incorrect pension or identification details can create problems during authentication or processing. Since Aadhaar-based authentication is involved, pensioners should also use the official Jeevan Pramaan application and avoid sharing sensitive Aadhaar or pension information with unknown websites, apps, or individuals.
What Happens After Successful Authentication?
Once Aadhaar-based authentication is successfully completed, the Jeevan Pramaan system generates a Digital Life Certificate with a unique Pramaan ID. The certificate is stored in the digital repository, allowing the pension disbursing agency to access it electronically. This removes the need for the pensioner to physically submit a paper Life Certificate to the concerned agency in the normal Jeevan Pramaan process.
The pensioner can keep the Pramaan ID safely for future reference and can download a PDF copy of the certificate through the official Jeevan Pramaan website. The official portal provides a facility for pensioners to enter their Pramaan ID and generate an OTP for accessing and downloading the certificate.
What if a Pensioner Cannot Generate It at Home?
Not every pensioner may be comfortable using a smartphone or completing Aadhaar Face Authentication. In such cases, there is no need to worry because Jeevan Pramaan services are also available through authorised centres. Pensioners can visit a Common Service Centre, certain banks, post offices, government offices, or other supported pension service points to complete the Digital Life Certificate process.
Doorstep services can also make the process easier for pensioners who have difficulty travelling. India Post Payments Bank provides doorstep Digital Life Certificate generation through the postal network, with authentication carried out through supported digital methods. According to the Department of Posts’ 2025 announcement, the doorstep service was extended to pensioners of Central and State Governments, Armed Forces, and EPFO, subject to the applicable service conditions.
Why Is Jeevan Pramaan Helpful for Pensioners?
The biggest advantage of Jeevan Pramaan is convenience. Instead of physically appearing before a pension disbursing authority simply to submit a Life Certificate, eligible pensioners can use a digital authentication process. This can save time, reduce travel and make the annual certificate process easier, particularly for senior citizens and pensioners who have mobility difficulties.
The digital system also reduces the dependence on physical paperwork because the certificate is stored electronically and can be accessed by the relevant pension disbursing agency. At the same time, pensioners should remember that generating Jeevan Pramaan does not automatically mean the certificate remains valid forever. The validity period is determined according to the rules of the concerned pension sanctioning authority.

Jeevan Pramaan has made the Life Certificate process considerably more convenient for eligible pensioners. With Aadhaar-based Face Authentication, pensioners can use a compatible smartphone to complete the process from home without requiring a separate fingerprint or iris device.
The Digital Life Certificate is generated electronically and made available to the concerned pension disbursing agency, reducing the need for physical submission. For pensioners who are unable to use the mobile-based facility, authorised centres, banks, and post offices can provide assistance, while eligible users can also access doorstep services offered through the postal network.
