Supreme Court: Voters are the foundation of democracy in the country, and if the same voter is suddenly removed from the list, then it is not just a matter of concern but also becomes a danger signal for democracy.

Out of 8 crores, 4 crores will have to submit documents

Senior advocates Kapil Sibal, Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Gopal Shankarnarayanan and Shadan Farasat put this matter before the Supreme Court bench and told that under the new process of the Election Commission in Bihar, crores of voters will have to submit their documents, otherwise their names will be removed from the voter list.

Advocate Singhvi said that “out of the voter number of 8 crore, 4 crore will have to go through the nomination process again.” Kapil Sibal called it an “impossible task”. Gopal Shankarnarayanan even said that the commission is not even recognizing Aadhar cards or voter IDs. This situation is very uncomfortable and scary for the common citizen.

“If you do not submit the form by July 25, your name will be removed”

The most worrying aspect is that the deadline set by the commission is very strict. If a person does not submit his documents by July 25, his name will be removed from the voter list, even if he has been voting continuously for the last 20 years.

However, on this, Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia said that “this deadline is not a sacred thing, because the notification of the election has not been issued yet.” The court also said that the Election Commission should be given prior notice of these petitions and the case was listed for hearing on Thursday.

Many public representatives and organizations filed petitions

So far four separate petitions have been filed In Supreme Court regarding this matter. Among them, RJD MP Manoj Jha, Association for Democratic Reforms, PUCL, social activist Yogendra Yadav and Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra have challenged this decision of the Election Commission. Everyone says that such a strict process can take away the democratic rights of millions of voters.

Is democracy really in danger

Imagine, people who have cast their votes for years to strengthen democracy, suddenly hear that their name is no longer in the list. This is not only a matter of concern, but also raises questions on the dignity of a common citizen. The role of the Election Commission should be transparent and public-friendly, but the questions that have arisen regarding this special revision are very deep.

Now hope from the Supreme Court

Millions of people are expected to get relief from the hearing on Thursday. This is not just a legal battle, but a necessary battle to protect democracy. This intervention of the Supreme Court shows that when the question is of the rights of the people, the eyes of justice never close.
