During a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House, Donald said that if Russia does not sign a ceasefire agreement within 50 days, then America is ready to impose strict import duty. Trump called it a “secondary tariff”, although the full information behind this word has not been revealed yet.

At the same time, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said that Trump has both the options of “sanctions and tariffs” and he can adopt either one.

There is turmoil in the Russian market, but there is hope too

After this statement, the Russian stock market first saw a decline, but when Trump announced a 50-day grace period, investors got hopeful and the Russian ruble also bounced back from its decline.

A White House official has also confirmed that if Russia does not agree to a ceasefire by early September, tariffs as well as sanctions can be imposed on it.

Possibility of change in the policy of Western countries

Till now, Western countries have imposed direct sanctions on Russia, but they did not completely stop Russia from selling oil. This is the reason why Russia is still earning a lot by selling oil to countries like China and India. But this threat from Trump can bring a big change in this policy and its effect will also be seen on global trade.
